Question: What's the
difference between an insert/doubler/booster/liner?
Answer:
An insert is
generally used to describe an absorbent layer of material placed inside a pocket diaper. The
bumGenius One Size insert that comes with your bumGenius One Size dipaer is an example of an insert. A prefold can also be used as an insert when stuffed inside a
pocket diaper.
A liner is placed between the diaper and baby's skin to
keep moisture away from the skin. It also helps keep solid waste from sticking
to the diaper. Liners can be disposable (such as the flushable/biodegradable liners)
or made of materials like microfleece.
A baby washcloth placed between baby and diaper can be used as a liner when you
choose to use a rash cream so as not to ruin the diaper. You do not
necessarily need a liner.
A doubler
or booster is sometimes used interchangeably with the
term insert. Both inserts and doublers or boosters are used to boost the
absorbency level of a diaper. A doubler traditionally goes on top of
the diaper against the child's skin whereas an insert is inside a pocket rather
than directly in touch with baby's skin. Many doublers can also be used as pocket diaper inserts.
