Question: What Detergent Should I Use for My Cloth Diapers

Answer
Our only criteria for recommending a detergent is how well it cleans the diapers without interfering with diaper performance or causing rash. At this time Allen's Naturally is the only detergent we recommend without reservation. Based on our tests in Southern California, Allen's naturally cleaned diapers best without leaving residue. It performs well in both top and front loading HE machines. Allen's naturally is recommended by the manufacturers for ALL the diapers we carry and is friendly to the environment (a bonus). Diaper manufacturers also recommend using detergent without bleach, enzymes, fabric softener. You may have read that other detergents would work on cloth diapers and be confused by the differing opinions on the web. We have compiled a chart (in PDF format) of recommendations from each manufacturer for the brands we carry, including Bummis, bumGenius, Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heinys, Imse Vimse and Thirsties, so you can compare and make your own informed choice.
